Mom Life

What a week it has been. This past week I have not been motivated to run in the mornings, but have still managed to complete at least a mile (slowly) on my treadmill. Today I got up and ran 2 feeling more motivated because it is a 3 day weekend perhaps?

My precious A turned 3 this week and the sass comes strong with her. It has actually been around for a while. We started the adventure of potty training last Saturday and in the past 7 days she has used her potty a grand total of 5 times. It’s a process.

We are going to just chill at home this weekend. January seems to go on forever especially as a teacher so I am cherishing this time with A. We love to hang out and play and binge movies. She loves to sing and draw. I love to paint so we do some of that and she always needs a bath afterwards. These truly are some of the greatest times as her mind is growing and she wants to explore life. If I am going to run when she is awake and she has to stay inside with J she says “No mama I run too.” Already instilling good habits in her.

I bought a gallon water bottle and she seems to think it is hers. I need to get her a smaller version of what I have. This kid loves water. #healthyhabits #water

I plan on getting signed up for a 5k the weekend of Feb 8th. Need to get out and run in the fresh air and see what my time is when not on the treadmill. But miles are miles no matter how they are completed.

I went back to work yesterday. I’m a teacher so winter break is over and it is time to get second semester out of the way. I got up to run like every other morning. However, I decided to set my treadmill for 45 minutes and see how far I could go. The answer 3.8 miles. I could’ve reset and walked the last .2 to make it an even 4 but I told myself that next time I would just try harder. Setting goals is something I’ve done and mostly not been successful with follow through. When I set the time limit I was being intentional. I ended my day yesterday 8.03 miles that’s all my steps. WOW!

Today I only did 20 minutes on the treadmill. That was intentional. I didn’t want to do another long for me run two days in a row because I don’t want to get hurt. Hopefully I can still get in the 8 miles by the end of the day.

Today my students come back. I placed notes at their seats to start our new year new decade off on the right foot. We are going to have a great day and finish this school year off in amazing fashion. I’m working on being mindful as well as intentional.

Nothing will change unless you make a change. #running #girlmom #teacherrunner #intentional #mindful #bekind #myhappinessismyissue

This is in my classroom!

Family Pictures

For Christmas I got a beautiful anchor necklace along with a note telling me I had been accepted to Hogwarts and they needed a family picture. lol J has a great sense of humor and he knows what I love Harry Potter and anchors. We scheduled our pictures for this morning, but then there were storms so moved to the afternoon.

I can’t wait to see the pictures even if A was being a pain. We were outside and hopefully got some great shots.

Out family is a bit of a mash up. A is mine and J’s. Then there’s S & D that aren’t biologically either of ours but I was with their dad for a several years so because of lots of things they are part of my family. They are A’s big sister and brother. She loves them. And C well he’s with S. They’ve been together for a few years. A also loves him.

We might be a mash up but we are family. We are a crazy family that I am glad we got pictures today to capture a few moments in time. Love the family you have even if they have no blood connection to you. Family is more about the ones you love and who love you.

Day 1 of 366

It is 2020. I would love to be able to travel back to 1920 in the city with their stylish clothing. Can we go back to that? Class.

Today I went with J, A, D, S, and C to spend some family time together. We did a drive thru safari park and then wildlife park. The place we went recovers nuisance alligators. There were so many!

Just a small portion of the alligators.

It was nice to spend time just hanging out and enjoying time with some of the most important people in my life.

I also signed up for a challenge to do 2,020 miles in 2020. All of my miles for the day will count; walking and running. I’m going to try and run more. It works out to 5.5 miles a day. This means I’m going to have to up my weekend game because I am usually lazy on the weekend. I am doing this for me.

Family time is my favorite. Here’s to 2020. May it be super successful.

Treadmills and playgrounds

My go to for running is the treadmill. It’s at my house which makes it safe and easily accessible. It can get boring but I listen to podcasts or music while I run/jog. Today I ran 2.27 miles in 26 minutes. That is good timing for me. I ran the first mile in just under 11 minutes and it was an amazing feeling.

A’s favorite form of exercise is the playground. She loves to climb the structures and slide. We talk about the playground all the time. If we could have one in our living room we would. Maybe one day she will have her own gym in the house. I love that she enjoys being active. When I tell her I’m going to run she says “A run too.” I know it is important to instill good habits so we are starting young.

I’m ok with spending most of my days of the playground. She’s only little once.

A Year in Review and a New Beginning

2019 what a year! There were many highs and a few lows. Overall a great year.

January 2019 – I decided to embark on a journey of losing weight. I started by doing some small work outs at home, getting a very tiny treadmill with a top speed of 4, and changing what I was eating. My doctor was not happy with my A1C levels either.

My daughter celebrated her 2nd birthday. She’s a hoot. More on her later.

February – Ran my 1st 5k of the year in a whopping 39 minutes. That was actually 10 minutes less than the one I had tried to do at the end of December 2018. I was making progress. I was even dropping weight

March – Signed up for another 5k but ended up with some crazy illness that did not allow me to walk because of the blisters on my feet. Then ended up at the doctor for what was believed to be appendicitis luckily it wasn’t. However, I was diagnosed with diverticulitis which meant I had to really limit my raw veggies intake Boo!!!! I had been having carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower for lunch just about every day. I fell off the wagon a bit. However, I did run a 5K at the end of the month in just over 36 minutes and this course included going up and down a very tall bridge twice.

April – Ran another 5k this time with my boyfriend and my ex’s son. My bf pushed out daughter in the stroller. She loved it. What a great time to bond. Nothing else really stands out about April.

May – Ran a “May the Fourth” Star Wars inspired 5k and a Mother’s Day 5k. My ex’s son left for Navy Boot Camp. Makes me super proud! (Navy Veteran right here!) School’s out! (Teacher right here!) Got a new to me treadmill that has a top speed of 12. Not there yet or probably ever. A had 2 ear infections and had to get daily antibiotics shots for 3 days. That was awful.

June – A lot of relaxing. Ran my first rainy 5k and then the next week ran a Father’s Day 5k. Holy cow was it hot! Ran 5 miles for the first time ever in 70ish minutes. Another ear infection for A.

July – Kept up mostly with running at home. Vacation. Over 5,000 miles in 12 days. Got to visit DC and see a few sites, Gettysburg, then to Southern Illinois to visit family, Chicago for boot camp graduation for D. That was emotional. It had been 12.5 years since I had marched into that same drill hall. Chicago sites. Back to Southern Illinois for my grandpa’s 80th birthday party. Back home to Florida. Exhausted! And I got off track with eating and running. Did see my doctor again she was super impressed with my A1C coming down.

August – Back to school. Back to running. Crazy busy and exhausted because teaching is hard. J’s birthday. Another ear infection for A that actually wasn’t diagnosed at first. Miserable.

September – Still doing some running. Hurt my elbow thought I broke it. That was awful. Turned 31.

October – The absolute worst month ever! My teaching partner decided to retire. (We are still very close.) My grandpa passed away so a road trip back to Southern Illinois. ☹️☹️ Came back from that and got the worst case of strep throat. I was at work and could barely move I hurt so badly. I ended up at the ER that evening with a fever of 103.5. My bones hurt. I don’t wish that on anyone. Needless to say my eating and running took a backseat. Gained weight back. Ugh! Another ear infection for A and finally a referral to the ENT for tubes. She also had platelets and had to have blood drawn. Luckily that came back up quickly.

November – Worked on getting back to running or at least walking. Still did not do a great job. Won’t beat myself up for it. Had to get a hearing test for A. Scheduled tubes. Some hearing loss hopefully reversible if not well we will make it work. My best friend came to visit. We had Thanksgiving with friends.

December – Back to the running game. Tubes for A. Don’t know if they’ve made a difference. Christmas was good. D is home on leave. I have only missed 3 days of running this month.

New Year’s plans: going to try going dairy free in order to see if it makes me feel better, limit carbs, drink lots of water, no soda (it makes me feel awful), sign up for some 5ks, be mindful, work on my book, write this blog to help keep me on track.
